I like food. I like thinking about it, I like talking about it. I like cooking it and I like eating it. I also like looking at photos of it and I like to take photos of it myself. Food to me is a big deal.
You know when you’ve just had an amazing meal, hopefully with a bunch of awesome friends – because what is food unless there is someone there to enjoy it with you? – and you get all sleepy and happy and start drifting into a food coma? That’s when you have a Happy Food Baby. When you have a bulging gut full of all that yummy food you just ate.
When it comes to food I like the following: butter, bacon, full-fat dairy, chocolate, arctic char, Michael Pollan, Jamie Oliver, grassfed meat, local produce – organic as much as possible and in season, marcona almonds, garlic, smoked garlic, Wexford strawberries, salami, chorizo, smoked paprika, brunch, ricotta, lemon and orange zest, sesame oil, pears poached in red wine, custard with almond extract, pomegranate, cinnamon, chickpeas…the list is endless and will continue to grow.
I am a journalism graduate, I have a cool little SLR, and I have worked in almost every aspect of the restaurant business so I like to think I know a thing or two about eating out. That said, there is always so much more to learn and to do.
Cooking is fun. For me, it is therapy, whether the end result is sweet or savoury. Go cook something, go create and get stuffed.
