Brussels Sprouts: another triumph!

Hands up who likes brussels sprouts? Like, actually likes them, plain, voluntarily eats them, would willingly buy them outside of Christmas time as part of your veggie shopping list? With the exception of my mum and most people of her generation, that leaves very few of us. But I have discovered, not one, but TWO ways to cook sprouts that are actually very tasty.

Brussels Sprouts with Orange Zest

The clue is in the title but I’ll share the recipe and method anyway. This amount fed two of us nicely.

10 or so sprouts, halved
1 tbslp orange zest
1 tblsp apple cider vinegar
Glug of olive oil, knob of butter
 

1. Par-boil the sprouts for 3 mins. Drain.

2. Heat the olive oil in a pan over a medium heat. Drop in the knob of butter.

3. Lash the sprouts into the pan, stir it up to coat them in oil and butter. After a minute or two, pour in the apple cider vinegar and allow the sprouts to cook for another 3-4 mins or so, not turning them too much, until they start to go brown and crispy.

4. Remove from the heat and throw the zest into the pan. Stir the sprouts to spread the zest evenly. Give the lads another minute in the pan and then serve post haste! Really nice actually, yeah.
